Sometimes, making change starts in your very own backyard.

Founded by Caroline Sahm, a rising junior from Westfield, New Jersey, Westfield Seeds of Change is proving that a simple garden can have a large impact on an entire community. With a mission to reduce food insecurity by collecting and donating excess garden produce, the organization also encourages people of all ages to discover that meaningful change often starts close to home.

What began as a local effort has grown into an initiative that has helped nourish both families and communities.

Over the past three years, Seeds of Change has donated more than 500 pounds of fresh produce to help individuals experiencing food insecurity. By redirecting surplus fruits and vegetables that might otherwise go unused, the organization transforms homegrown harvests into healthy meals for those who need them most.

Beyond addressing immediate needs, Seeds of Change is cultivating a culture of service. The initiative inspires community members to use their own skills, resources, and passions to make a difference, demonstrating that anyone can contribute to solving local challenges.

Caroline's leadership has earned national recognition. She was selected as a Feeding America Youth Ambassador, an honor that reflects the meaningful impact Seeds of Change has made throughout the Westfield community.

The organization's work has also been featured by numerous media outlets, including News 12 New Jersey, The Westfield Leader, Westfield TAPinto, New Jersey Farmer, and Mother Earth News, helping spread its message of community service and sustainable giving.

For Caroline, every harvest isn’t just about fresh produce, but neighbors helping neighbors and the idea that small acts of generosity can grow into lasting change.
