For many children living in remote mountain communities, receiving a quality education involves overcoming challenges that extend far beyond the classroom. Limited access to technology, leadership opportunities, and essential life skills can make it difficult for students to reach their full potential despite their talent and determination. Yet with the right opportunities, every child has the ability to dream bigger.
Determined to bridge this opportunity gap, Krishiv Uniyal founded Walk The Summit, a youth-led nonprofit working across remote Himalayan communities in Uttarakhand, India. Inspired by witnessing the stark contrast between urban and rural education, the organization is dedicated to ensuring that geography never determines the opportunities available to a child.
What began as an idea at just fourteen years old has grown into a movement that equips students with the communication, leadership, digital literacy, public speaking, and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in the modern world. By working alongside schools and local communities, Walk The Summit empowers children with the confidence and knowledge that traditional classrooms often lack the resources to provide.
Today, the initiative has empowered more than 2,500 students across 75 rural classrooms, delivering over 800 hours of structured learning while helping strengthen educational infrastructure through community fundraising and corporate partnerships. From supporting smart classrooms to improving transportation for students in remote villages, Walk The Summit continues to expand access to opportunities that help young people reach their full potential.
Krishiv's leadership has been recognized through numerous honors, including being selected as one of only 100 students nationwide to attend India's 77th Republic Day Parade as a Special Guest through NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission. He is also the recipient of the AIIMS Delhi Young Changemakers Award, the PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry Junior Astitva Samman, and has been recognized by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Uttarakhand. Walk The Summit's work has also been featured by Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Ujala, Punjab Kesari, Delhi Darpan TV, and numerous other national and regional media outlets.
