For many students, success can often feel defined by grades, test scores, or fitting into expectations set by others. Yet countless young people have the potential to become leaders; they simply need someone who believes in them and helps them recognize the light they already possess.
Determined to inspire that confidence, Victor Guerrero, a rising 10th grader from Marietta, Georgia, founded Closing The Gap, a youth-led initiative dedicated to empowering students through mentorship, encouragement, and educational support. Built on the belief that today's outliers can become tomorrow's leaders, the organization strives to help every student recognize their ability to create meaningful change.
What began as a passion for helping others has grown into an initiative that demonstrates how one student can make a lasting impact within their community. Through mentorship and personal guidance, Closing The Gap encourages students to overcome barriers, embrace their strengths, and pursue opportunities they may have never imagined for themselves.
Today, the initiative continues to support students by fostering confidence, leadership, and academic growth. Rather than focusing solely on achievement, Closing The Gap emphasizes the importance of believing in one's own potential and using that confidence to uplift others.
Its impact is already evident. Through Victor's mentorship, the students he worked with contributed to a 15% increase in ACCESS Test pass rates over the past year, demonstrating how encouragement and consistent support can translate into meaningful academic success.
As the initiative continues to grow, Closing The Gap remains committed to expanding its reach while inspiring more students to become leaders within their schools and communities. Every student mentored represents another opportunity to build confidence, create lasting change, and prove that leadership begins with believing in yourself.
