For many people, protecting their skin from the sun is often overlooked until the long-term consequences become impossible to ignore. Despite skin cancer being one of the most preventable forms of cancer, a lack of education about UV exposure and sun safety continues to put countless individuals at unnecessary risk. Raising awareness today has the power to prevent serious health challenges tomorrow.
Determined to change that, Saanvi Kasala founded SunProof, a youth-led initiative based in Frankfort, Kentucky, dedicated to promoting sun safety, UV protection, and skin cancer prevention through education, community outreach, and meaningful partnerships. Guided by the belief that prevention begins with knowledge, the initiative empowers individuals to make informed decisions that protect their health for years to come.
What began as a passion for public health advocacy has grown into a movement that educates communities about the importance of sun protection. Through awareness campaigns, educational resources, and partnerships with organizations focused on melanoma prevention, SunProof is helping people understand that simple habits—such as wearing sunscreen, seeking shade, and protecting their skin from harmful UV rays—can make a lasting difference.
Today, SunProof continues to expand its impact by educating hundreds of individuals through community outreach and public awareness campaigns. The initiative has hosted educational booths at local Farmers Markets, built an international ambassador team, partnered with fellow youth-led organizations to broaden its reach, and is working toward providing sunscreen dispensers and sun safety care packages to communities. Through social media, SunProof has also built a growing community of more than 2,000 followers, helping spread evidence-based sun safety education to an even wider audience.
Saanvi's dedication to health advocacy has also led to collaborations with organizations such as AIM at Melanoma, where she has helped promote melanoma awareness and strengthen community education efforts. By connecting with healthcare professionals, community organizations, and youth leaders, she continues to expand access to reliable information about UV safety and skin cancer prevention.
